Childhood Nostalgia – 90s kids

The other day, my best friend and I were having a girl day and for some random reasons, we ended up going to our local Toys ‘R Us since she wanted to look for Minions merchandise (she’s a big big fan).  However, some at the store caught our attention… A newly released version of Tamagotchi. Well it could been released a couple years back but we haven’t been paying attention to toy release. Suddenly we felt a strong sense of nostalgia and we purchased a Tamagotchi on impulse…..

I remember as a kid, back in the 1995-1996, Tamagotchis were increasing in popularity. It all started as a chicken/duck avatar then gradually, there are Angels Tamagotchi, Puppy Tamagotchi, Dinosaur Tamagotchi, Little Mermaid Tamagotchi (which I DESPERATELY WANTED back then…) etc etc. I remember having 2 bird ones, a dino, and a puppy Tamagotchi running at the same time. The very first generation ones, if you drop the toy, the game will reset due to your digital pet death (they are super delicate). Also, there are no pause buttons so it was quite a hassle to rear them when I went to school. Luckily, my mom was a housewife back then and my little brother was just born… So I kind asked her to take care my digital pets for me. Thinking back, it was quite silly because they would all go off at different time (either they are hungry or bored LOLOLOLOL) I stopped playing after a few months and the Tamagotchi trend slowly phased out…

HOWEVER, during my high school year, the Tamagotchi trend was back! I think it was mid 2000 that Tamagotchi Connection was released and their design was SUPER cute! I remember my brother got one as a birthday present and he bought another one because apparently there were some special features where you can link two together etc… ALSO YOU CAN PAUSE THE GAME! Which save SO MUCH HASSLE when you’re in school and meeting!!!! Then the Tamagotchi trend got phased out once again near the end of 2006 (ish)

Egg of surprises… Sorta….

To my surprised I found THIS when I was at the toy stores. I know that they are still in store in Japan because I visited some Tamagotchi store when I went last Spring and the Japanese version are all IN COLORS!!!! But the ones in North America’s are not sadly….:( But they are still cute. So my best friend I both purchased one. When I opened the box I was surprised that the toy was HUGE compared to the older generation! Haha… I guess having 2 AAA batteries is better than those small flat ones…

Yup.. so now I have a bet with  my best friend to see who can keep these creatures the longest.. LOL
